The oldest community on the highway, Grayton has a character that is entirely its own — unpretentious, creative, deeply rooted in the natural landscape, and fiercely resistant to the kind of homogenization that has affected other beach communities.

A Place with History

Grayton Beach has been a destination since the late 19th century, when the first families began building summer cottages here. The community grew slowly and organically over the decades, and that organic growth is visible in the eclectic mix of old Florida cottages, newer construction, and everything in between that defines the neighborhood today.

Grayton Beach State Park

The state park that bears the community's name is one of the crown jewels of the Florida state park system. Consistently rated among the best beaches in the country, the park preserves a stretch of coastline that is as close to pristine as you will find on the Gulf Coast. The coastal dune lake within the park — Western Lake — is one of the most beautiful bodies of water in Florida.
