Port St. Joe sits on the western shore of St. Joseph Bay in Gulf County, and it is one of the most genuinely charming small towns on the entire Gulf Coast. With a population of just under 3,500 permanent residents, it has the feel of a real community — the kind of place where people know their neighbors, support local businesses, and take pride in where they live.
A Town with Real Character
Unlike some Florida beach towns that exist primarily to serve tourists, Port St. Joe has a life of its own. Reid Avenue, the main street, is lined with locally owned restaurants, boutiques, and coffee shops. The waterfront along St. Joseph Bay is a gathering place for residents and visitors alike, and the town hosts a calendar of festivals and events throughout the year.
The bay itself is extraordinary — calm, clear, and rich with marine life. It is one of the premier scalloping destinations in Florida, and the fishing for redfish and trout is world-class.

Port St. Joe offers some of the best value on the Forgotten Coast. You can still find well-maintained homes within walking distance of the water at prices that would be impossible in Panama City Beach or along 30A. The market has strengthened considerably since Hurricane Michael in 2018, with significant new construction and renovation activity throughout the area.
Bay-front and Gulf-front properties command premium prices, but the overall market remains accessible compared to more heavily marketed destinations. For buyers looking to get into a Florida coastal market before prices move further, Port St. Joe is worth serious attention.
